Inspiration Board - Sadie

Hello beautiful people!

I decided to start posting about my inspiration for each character, in The Caelian Cycle and eventually including other projects I am currently working on. If you have visited my Pinterest then you have probably seen most of these photos, but in the future I plan on expanding my inspiration boards to locations and themes I'm exploring within the book.  I'm going to start with the main character of the series...

Sadie

I love female characters that are strong and able. I especially love them when they have major weaknesses and flaws. That was what I was first thinking of when I was coming up with Sadie. She has lived a relatively easy life inside an orphanage with people who actually care for the children's well-being and although she never had to deal with abuse or neglect, she is still an orphan. Children who are left behind and/or feel cast aside have an emotional scar that will always be there. The scar may fade to almost nothing if their lives end up happy, but it will always be there - a reminder.

By the time Sadie is in high school, everyone in her peer group has discovered their Talents except her. She feels like an outcast, a freak. Then her boyfriend is murdered.

There are times in everyone's lives, even the strong ones, where they feel overwhelmed. These moments can last an hour, a day, weeks, months, or even years. Sadie is not weak because she struggles with her grief. She eventually comes to embrace it as a part of who she is and begins to live her life again.

When writing about Sadie, I wanted her to be level headed and to have a little bit of a no-nonsense personality, but with a touch of sass (she is southern after all). She thinks about her actions before jumping into situations, but she isn't so wrapped up in logic that she can't follow her heart. Teenagers can and do make stupid decisions, but that is not the sum of what they are. I have met many teenagers both young and old who make smart decisions that could rival some that I have made as an adult.

I'm going to leave you with a little tidbit, Sadie started off the series under a different name. I'll get into why the big name change another time, but I took on a huge responsibility when I renamed my character and I strive to make sure Sadie is hope and strength.

Hope you enjoyed this little insight. See you next week when we look into Kian.

Hello wonderful people. So sorry it's been a while. Summer has been in full swing over here.  I've been spending most of my free time wrapping up the first draft of Bound and have been elbow deep in copy edits.

I have been working with Kari from Cover to Cover Designs with the cover for Bound and I'm just about ready to release it out to the world, but as of right now I'll leave this teaser image right over here.

What's new & a sneak peek

Hello all you beautiful people!

The paperback version of Lost arrived for me to proof and it was perfect, beautiful, and absolutely amazing to look at. As you can see, my little girl was just as amazed as her mother.

The paperback version should be available for pre-order in another week at Amazon and it could take up to 8 weeks for other distributors. Stay tuned on information on that if you prefer another book distributor.

In other news, Lost will go on a virtual book tour to begin on July 6th until July 23rd through Sparkle Book Tours. There will be a lot of activity on my social media and on this blog those two weeks.

Book 2 of The Caelian Cycle is well on it's way. I've had some set backs with my kids acting absolutely CRAZY since the weather in Texas has been insane. My rugrats need to be released into the wild at least once a day for everyone's sanity, but for nearly a month that wasn't possible with daily rain. However, it seems Texas has found its summer and hopefully I will be able to get the book done on schedule.

Would you like to read the first chapter of Lost?

Within the week, I will be sending out my first newsletter with some important news and the first chapter of Lost. If you sign up you'll have important updates and other surprises delivered directly to your inbox. The newsletter sign up is under my twitter feed on left left. >>>>>

Stay Amazing!

Cover Reveal - Lost

It's here! It's here! It's FINALLY here!!!

I have been waiting for weeks to see the cover for my first book and it is beautiful! First I'd like to thank the wonderful Kari from Cover to Cover Designs for working with me on getting my vision of Sadie out of my head and in print. It's hard to design a SciFi cover and keep that Young Adult feel without it getting all hokey. I say she did a smashing job!

And now without further stalling for time, here is the cover for Lost, book 1 of The Caelian Cycle.

Stay tuned for an update on the exact release date. I do know it will be in mid-June 2015 and it will be available at all major retailers: Amazon, Barnes & Nobel, iBooks, Kobo, Smashwords, etc.

Synopsis:

During WW1, a meteorite crashed, releasing a mist that changed the DNA of all who were exposed.  One hundred years has passed and society is divided between the Norms and the Caelians, whose changed DNA awakened dormant gifts, called Talents.

Sadie is over it!

She’s an orphan, her boyfriend was murdered, and she’s the only Caelian at St. Vincent’s without a Talent. Once she turns 18, there will be no place for her in the world. That is, until a chance encounter with Kian, a Caelian boy who makes her feel uncomfortable and alive at the same time.

Secrets of her past are uncovered and Sadie’s latent, rare Talent is exposed. With great power comes the hunters, hired by an egomaniac who wants to use Sadie’s power to establish Caelian dominance. On the run with Kian and her friends, Sadie will have to decide: hide or fight.

Will Sadie accept her new reality or will she stay lost?
